Abstract

The article deals with the assessment of the state of conservation of metallo-acid inks in a selection of 16th century historical documents from the AHPT. These inks present a serious conservation problem due to corrosion. The research describes inspection protocols to assess the deterioration of the inks. It is applied to notarial, judicial and conventual manuscripts and classifies their condition into four states from good to poor. The results show that many documents show signs of corrosion. This highlights the urgency of taking appropriate conservation measures to preserve this heritage.
