Géneros y modernidad en la escultura española de fines del siglo XIX. Una aproximación a través de seis piezas del Prado depositadas en Canarias

Se analiza un grupo deseis esculturas que pertenecen a las colecciones del Museo del Prado. Están depositadas en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife desde 1908. Estas piezas fueron expuestas en Madrid, poco después de esculpidas o modeladas por sus autores (Moratilla, Carretero, Menéndez Entrialgo, Cabrera, Ridaura y Coullaut-Valera), con motivo de las exposiciones nacionales celebradas en 1867, 1897, 1899 y 1901. A pesar de que la crítica contemporánea subrayó la importancia de los temas para valorarlas, este viejo punto de vista contribuyó a reflexionar sobre las modernas tendencias en la escultura española del siglo XIX.
The object of analysis is a group of six sculptures that belongs to the Prado Museum Collections. They are deposited in the Fine Arts Museum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 1908. These pieces were exhibited in Madrid, soon after they were carved or modeled by their authors (Moratilla, Carretero, Menéndez Entrialgo, Cabrera, Ridaura y Coullaut-Valera), on the occasion of the national exhibitions celebrated in 1867, 1897, 1899 y 1901. In spite of contemporary criticism emphasized the importance of subjects in order to appraise them, this old point of view contributed to think over modern trends in nineteenth century spanish sculpture.
