Abstract

The Manila-Mysore embassy from 1776-1777, despite its interest regarding the Indo-pacific connexions and the Spanish Philippine’s diplomacy on the eve of the “Eurasian revolution”, remains surrounded by questions that we intent to answer through a new explanatory model, based on the notion of indirect diplomacy and the approaches borrowed from Global History. Our findings shed light on understudied historiographic topics, as they prove the significance of earlier precedents for the mission, emphasize the influence of the Asian realities on Spanish political decisions and identify the advantages and disadvantages of a mode of diplomacy sprung up in a unique context.
