Fernando González Beyond his Poetry: A Career Frustrated by the Francoist Repression of Teachers

Fifty years after his death, this article takes the opportunity to delve deeper into aspects of the life of the poet Fernando González Rodríguez. Going beyond his well-studied literary trajectory, fresh perspectives can be gleaned from different epistolary, familial and institutional archives, alongside a bibliographic review. After a childhood marked by child labour, González Rodríguez got a scholarship to study in Madrid, where he entered intellectual and literary circles. Devoted to his role as a professor of language and literature, his teaching career was cut short by way of Francoist reprisal against his Republican stance and his political commitment to Manuel Azaña.
