The aim of this study is to analyse the position of this institution with respect to three island regions: The Canary Islands, a territory dominated by Spain, the Cape Verde Islands, occupied by Portugal until 1974, and Madeira, currently a Portuguese region. In the case of the first and the third, the OAU, after a long process of negotiation, decided not to support self-determination, while in the case of Cape Verde the position remained unchanged. Therefore, in this study we will analyse the causes and motivations that led the African forum to take a divergent decision in territories that are certainly close to each other. To this end, a review of the bibliography will be carried out and primary sources will be used, such as official documents from international institutions (minutes and resolutions of the UN and the OAU).
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 César García Andrés, Pablo Arconada Ledesmahttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1153The evolution of fertility in the Canary Islands in contrast with that of Spain in the 21st century (2000-23)2024-05-06T08:12:44+00:00Ramón Beteta Aviorabeteta@yahoo.es
El SFI of the Canary Islands reports a greater decrease than that of Spain in the first 8 triennia of the 21st century (32,3% vs 5,7%), associated with a greater decrease in the fertility of women under 35 years of age and a smaller increase in the fertility of women over 35 years of age. The age at first motherhood has been delayed by 2.43 years in Spain and 3.16 years in the Canary Islands. The relative weight of births to foreign mothers increased by 164.3% in Spain and 125.8% in the Canary Islands, although their SFI fell by 27.4% and 43.8%, respectively.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Ramón Beteta Aviohttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1155RRidesourcing in Mexico. Spread, determinants and types of users 2024-05-06T16:24:15+00:00Fernando Calonge Reillofernando.calonge@urjc.es
Some questions persist about ridesourcing services in Mexico after ten years of operation, particularly about the extension, determinants and users of such services. This article is based on the 2020 Census by the National Bureau of Statistics. It is discovered that ridesourcing comprehends one third of all trips taken by taxi, although it is still a minority choice. The most important determinant of use is type of household, as people in non-familiar and extended households are regular users. It is also shown that a great variety of needs and users are catered by such services.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Fernando Calonge Reillohttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1075The decline of the vineyard landscape according to historical cartography2023-12-04T16:37:03+00:00Eugenio Climent-Lópezecliment@unizar.esSamuel Esteban Rodríguezsestebanr@unizar.esJulio Fernández Portelajfportela@geo.uned.es
The objective is to analyse the evolution of the vineyard in the Calatayud region throughout the 20th century.

2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Juan José Díazhttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1158Social denouncement and corruption in the work of the Frenchified Manuel José Centeno (1821)2024-05-12T11:33:22+00:00Diego José Feria Lorenzodiego.feria@denf.uhu.esCristina Ramos Cobanocristina.ramos@dhis2.uhu.es
The Frenchified clergy in 1808 bet on the Bonaparte monarchy hoping for changes in the rigid structures of the Old Regime in Spain. The reformism of the French Enlightenment was the hope deposited in the new Josephine dynasty, above all, in the economic, social and political order of the country. With this work we intend to deepen in the analysis of Manuel José Centeno's Memoria sobre los expósitos in which we will try to detect the allegations of corruption in the charitable institutions. This group of clergymen supported the enlightened reforms and the humanization of the care of foundlings and orphans in the institutions where they were admitted. The attention to unmarried mothers and their safety was another of the concerns expressed in the work, especially to avoid clandestine abortions and infanticide, so common at the time.
2025-01-22T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Diego José Feria Lorenzo, Cristina Ramos Cobanohttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1123Nightlife in Bologna through the analysis of statutes (13th-15th centuries)2024-03-13T13:43:57+00:00Filippo Gallettifilippo.galletti2@unibo.it
The contribution aims to investigate nightlife in Bologna (Italy) in the late medieval period. Through the analysis of statute sources drafted between the 13th and 15th centuries, the role of the officers employed in night control, regulation through preventive and prohibitory rules, and the activities permitted by the authorities are described. The findings reveal a shift from a local supervision of the night to one exercised by foreign magistrates who also increasingly regulated the moral sphere. At the same time, Bolognese nightlife was characterised by a certain dynamism due to the many activities that took place at nightfall.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Filippo Gallettihttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1120The landscape and geomorphological heritage of the high Cantabrian mountains through an Itinerary through the Peña Ubiña Massif2024-03-08T12:20:08+00:00David Gallinar Cañedogallinardavid@uniovi.esMirella Ochoa ÁlvarezUO269976@uniovi.esCristina García Hernándezgarciahcristina@uniovi.esJesús Ruiz Fernándezruizjesus@uniovi.es
The common thread of this geographical itinerary through the Peña Ubiña Massif is the modeling forms and the landscape in a high Cantabrian Mountain area. From eight stops in enclaves of special geomorphological relevance, the morphological traces of the Last Glaciation, periglacial processes, snow forms, karst modeling, fluviotorrential action and the vestiges of anthropic activity and the Spanish Civil War are observed. The aim is to revalue the geomorphological heritage, a fundamental element in the management plans of protected natural spaces that increasingly demands more efforts for its dissemination.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 David Gallinar Cañedo, Mirella Ochoa Álvarez, Cristina García Hernández, Jesús Ruiz a naturalist who connected botany, arts and poetry2024-04-08T12:40:18+00:00Elisa Garrido Morenoelisa.garrido.moreno@uam.es
Blanca Catalán de Ocón y Gayolá (1860-1904) is a name that is beginning to impact in the history of Spain, but whose legacy is yet to be discovered. From her youth, she showed an innate interest in botany and that is why she was designated as «the first Spanish botanist» by the German scientist H.M. Willkomm, director of the Prague Botanical Garden. She lived her youth surrounded by the beauty of nature, scientific knowledge and the good taste for arts and poetry that in every corner of her home situated in an immense valley in the heart of the Sierra de Albarracín. As a result of her research, she composed an herbarium with more than eighty species, some of them still unknown to science. However, the flowers of the valley were for her much more than elements to be scientifically analysed. As for other women naturalists of the 19th century, botany became a source of artistic inspiration, manifested in poems and floral compositions that we collect here today thanks to the research carried out in the private archive preserved by her descendants.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Helena Gozalbes Garcíahttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1146The value of feelings among the families of the Spanish aristocracy (1770-1830)2024-05-02T12:58:57+00:00Juan Hernández Francojhf@um.esAntonio Irigoyen Lópezadiri@um.es
The history of feelings has been consolidated as one of the most appropriate ways to know how families were transformed in the period when the extended family declined and the nuclear family began to be constituted, also called sentimental family by other authors. Some families of the Spanish aristocracy can be an excellent observatory to analyze this process. From the last third of the 18th century, influenced by the enlightened sensibility, they valued affection as the foundation of family coexistence, without renouncing the ties of blood and the culture of the ancestors.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Juan Hernández Franco, Antonio Irigoyen Lópezhttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1156Antonio Tovar and the university cultural press during the postwar Salamanca: Cátedra (1942-1945), Lazarillo (1943-1944) y Trabajos y Días (1946-1951)2024-05-06T18:22:46+00:00Manuel Herrería Boladomahebo@usal.es
This article deals with some of the cultural publications of the University of Salamanca environment edited during the early post-war period, in which Antonio Tovar (rector of the university between 1951 and 1956) played a leading role. The analysis of this case allows us to analyse at the same time the Spanish neutrality during the Great War, with an emphasis on the impact that the German submarine war had on the governments in Madrid. The review of the Canarian press of the period and the analysis of archival diplomatic documentation were the primary sources used for this work, and they help to draw the Canary Islands‘ importance for the belligerent powers and the islanders’ interest in the war.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Daniel Macías Fernándezhttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1161The reflection of the floor plan of the Cathedral of Jaen in America2024-06-04T18:04:16+00:00Mercedes Inmaculada Moreno Partalmmpartal@ujaen.es
The meeting of architects that took place in 1548 was a turning point in the Cathedral of Jaén, since it was the beginning of the new Renaissance project that gave rise to a floor plan, which, even with Gothic reminiscences, is innovative. Architects and bishops remained faithful to it over time, which made it a well-known project not only in Spain, but also in America, which is why when building a cathedral many of them looked to Jaén, something that is reflected in their plans as we intend to demonstrate in this article.
2025-01-20T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Mercedes Inmaculada Moreno Partalhttps://revistavegueta.ulpgc.es/ojs/index.php/revistavegueta/article/view/1101Diplomatic relations between Spain and Cuba in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (1976-1981)2024-01-28T17:06:29+00:00Miguel Ceferino Padrón Alemánmiguelpadronaleman@gmail.com
En el presente artículo se analiza cómo se desarrollaron las relaciones España-Cuba en la Transición española a la democracia (1975-1981) desde diferentes planos.
