Canarias en Chile a través de las postales y fotografías de principios del siglo XX / The Canary Islands in Chile through Postcards and Photograph from the Beginning of the 20th Century

Abstract

Chile, a partir de su independencia, pasará el siglo XIX y los inicios del siglo XX buscando referentes e impregnándose de aires nuevos, en un intento por construir una identidad nacional y alejarse de la etapa colonial. Alimentando estas ansias de libertad, las postales y fotografías llegadas desde Europa al país austral jugarán un papel protagonista. En este artículo pretendemos estudiar la llegada de estas cartulinas desde Canarias, sus lugares de recepción, remitentes y destinatarios, en un intento por sistematizar y poner en valor su existencia. La metodología fundamental utilizada para el presente trabajo será la consulta de bases de datos, a través de la cual pretendemos demostrar que el archipiélago, en su papel histórico como nexo tricontinental, tenía cabida en este incesante viaje de tarjetas postales. / Upon gaining independence, Chile spent the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century searching for reference points upon new horizons, in an attempt to build a national identity and move away from the colonial era. Fuelling this desire for freedom, postcards and photographs sent to the southern country from Europe had a leading role. In this article, we examine the arrival of these cards from the Canary Islands, where they were received as well as their senders and recipients, with the intention of systematizing and evaluating their existence. The fundamental methodology employed has been to look at databases, through which we intend to demonstrate that the archipelago, in its historical role as a tri-continental nexus, played a part in this incessant flux of postcards.
