Realineamiento Geopolítico en el Sahel occidental. Causas y características (2002-2025)

El golpe de Estado del 18 de agosto de 2020 en Malí marcó el inicio de un acercamiento del país hacia Rusia, que se materializó a finales de 2021 con la llegada de miembros de la Compañía Militar Privada Wagner, quienes reemplazaron progresivamente a las tropas francesas y occidentales como principales aliados en la lucha contra los grupos yihadistas. Este cambio fue indicativo de un creciente rechazo popular a las intervenciones occidentales, que, aunque inicialmente fueron bien recibidas, perdieron legitimidad con el tiempo. Este proceso de realineamiento geoestratégico no se limitó a Malí, sino que también abarcó a Burkina Faso y Níger, que, tras sufrir golpes de Estado, se acercaron a Rusia, evidenciando un cambio más amplio en la dinámica del Sahel. Este trabajo analiza las etapas, factores y actores clave de esta transformación geopolítica en la región.
